My favorite WordPress plugins

As I’ve been working on my bachelor-project, these last few days I’ve tried out a lot of different WordPress plugins just to find the right one for my particular use. To be specific, I needed a responsive full screen image gallery which I’m sad to say, I didn’t find, and finally decided to use a jQuery plugin and modify the css to my needs instead.

However, I also needed a good contact-form plugin and a plugin for signing up to an event, while providing different information for that event. I went through a lot of different plugins before I found a good, fitting and free(!) plugin that fittet my needs perfectly. I refused to buy a whole plugin for it, since it’s a school project, and I’m not making any money building this website. And this made me think. Of course people have been working their asses off to make an awesome plugin and they’re being so nice as to make it available to me for free! That’s admirable. And that is why I want to give them credit, since they’re not getting my money, at least they’re getting some free advertising.

So without further ado, here is a short list of my favorite WordPress plugins (I included some that I did pay for, but none-the-less, they deserve the credit as well) – this list might get longer in time as I try out more plugins.

Ninja Forms by The WP Ninjas

This is the plugin I finally landed on for both the contact form and the sign up form. It kinda has everything. It is possible for you to make as many forms as you need and you can customize them to fit your exact needs. It is also very easy to implement – you just insert a shortcode in your template and it works! You can even make your very own custom success message or choose to send a confirmation e-mail to the user. It saves all the data written in the form in the backend of your WordPress site.

WordPress SEO by Team Yoast

This is actually the only SEO-plugin I’ve ever tried, and there’s a reason for that. It’s easy to use and it just works. You just install it and you’re good to go. Now you can make awesome SEO on every post and page on your site.

Advanced Custom Fields by Elliot Condon

This is a plugin that I almost always use when I’m building a WordPress site – and that’s why I decided to buy it, so I always have it handy. You get a license for as many websites you want if you hust purchase it once. It’s easy to implement, the backend is easy to use and it’s just so simple and clean. So whenever I need a repeater field for a gallery or other custom fields that don’t come with the WordPress package, I use this plugin.
